Sludge beds

An open shallow basin with a concrete bottom and a layer of gravel sand functions in the waste water treatment plant on the principle of built-in drainage, from which water outflows through weirs. Settled sludge is removed from the bottom, and transported for final processing. Sludge beds produce high dry content in the dewatered sludge. However the entire dewatering process is demanding from the viewpoint of time, finances, hygienic and climatic conditions. This is an obsolete system, and is not further built in the Czech Republic.

Compared to sludge beds, the decanter centrifuge can work, beside waste water treatment plants, also in industrial plants of all sizes, and even in the field. The centrifuge does not need large built-up area.
