Decanter centrifuges

Centrifuges (decanters) can be of co-current flow or counterflow type. Solid components are separated by bowl rotation, settle on internal surface of the bowl, and are carried away by a screw conveyor. With special internal arrangement it is possible to separate two mutually non-miscible liquid phases (e.g. water and oil) and one solid phase (tricanter). Main advantages include small built-up area, high flexibility of the process, minimum operation and maintenance requirements, high dry content, absence of secondary waste (dirty wash water like for belt sludge presses). The decanter centrifuges can be noisier than some other sludge dewatering equipment.
